LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Aces fans might get a chance to show their support as the state considers issuing a specialty license plate.
Aces owner Mark Davis led a contingent from Las Vegas — including team mascot “Buckets” — traveling to Carson City to support the proposal at the Nevada Legislature. Sponsors Tracy Brown-May and Daniele Monroe-Moreno presented Assembly Bill 117 (AB117) on Thursday.
The license plate would cost an extra $35, standard for a specialty plate, plus an extra $25 that would go to the Las Vegas Aces Foundation. The foundation supports health and fitness, disadvantaged children and families, education and women in sports. If lost, a $10 fee would be charged for replacing the plate.

Charitable plates such as the proposed Aces plates are usually $61 the first year and $30 to renew.
Bill sponsors are also trying to allow a way to get the specialty plate on brand-new vehicles. Currently, specialty plates are only available at renewal.
Specialty plates for the Vegas Golden Knights and the Las Vegas Raiders are among the most popular plates issued by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
As of January, just over 73,000 vehicles had Golden Knights plates (18.4% of all vehicles in Nevada), according to a report provided by the DMV. Raiders plates started a few years after the VGK plates, but have grown to more than 41,000 (10.4%).

The Aces have built a solid fan base in Las Vegas since the franchise moved here from San Antonio.
Led by stars including A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young and recently traded Kelsey Plum, the Aces posted back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023. The team added all-star Jewel Loyd for the upcoming season.
